Thursday Oct. 2, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Ready to create your new favourite weekend staple? Join Kelley in this exciting class and sew the incredibly popular Fenix Sweatshirt by Style Arc! This pattern is a must-have for its blend of classic comfort and modern design, perfect for adding a stylish touch to your casual wardrobe.
The Style Arc Fenix Sweatshirt is known for its relaxed, slouchy fit with a comfortable dropped shoulder and deep armhole. What sets it apart are the clever design details: side panels (think colour blocking) with integrated inseam pockets for a clean look, and the opportunity to use contrasting ribbing or main fabric for the neckband, cuffs, hem band, and those stylish side panels. It also features a subtle hi-low hemline for a contemporary silhouette.
In this class, Kelley will guide you through:
-
Working with Knit Fabrics: Tips and tricks for handling various knit fabrics like fleece, French terry, or rugby knit, ensuring smooth sewing and professional results.
-
Accurate Cutting & Preparation: Mastering precise cutting techniques for knit garments.
-
Constructing the Dropped Shoulder: Successfully assembling the extended shoulder line and deep armhole for that perfectly relaxed fit.
-
Invisible Inseam Pockets: Learning how to seamlessly integrate the practical side panel pockets.
-
Attaching Ribbing (or main fabric bands): Techniques for achieving neat and stretchy neckbands, cuffs, and hem bands that lie flat and look fantastic.
-
Topstitching Details: Adding professional topstitching for a polished finish (optional, but highly recommended!).
-
Achieving a Great Fit: Tips for customizing the fit to your preference, especially for a relaxed garment like a sweatshirt.
About the Style Arc Fenix Sweatshirt Pattern: This pattern is often described as "Easy to Intermediate." While Style Arc instructions can be concise, Kelley's expert guidance will break down each step, making this a very achievable and rewarding project for beginners eager to expand their skills with knits, and a satisfying make for intermediate sewers looking for a stylish wardrobe builder.
Recommended Fabrics: Mid-weight knit fabrics with some body such as Fleece, French Terry, Sweatshirt Fleece, or Rugby Knit. You'll also need knit ribbing for the bands, or more of your main fabric if it has good stretch and recovery. Pop into the store and we'll help you find the right fabric.
